As far as crazy song names go, this one probably takes the cake. Â But that’s okay, because it’s not really a song…or is it? Â Press play on the video below and be the judge.
This “madd”eningly talented group of dub poets fuse words, instruments and harmonies into powerful social commentary. Â The first TickuTalk.com post about No-Maddz referred to them as a group rather than a band on purpose, because simply referring to them as a band would be too narrow a definition. Â They are actors, singers, songwriters and poets. Â They are performance artists in every sense of the word. Â Perhaps the highest praise of all that I can give them is that both my daughter and I loved this performance for entirely different reasons. Â She loved the silly and playful side of the music, while I appreciated the seriousness of the message they were trying to get across. Â Aside from our amateur opinions, I discovered that each member of the No-Maddz has individually earned the Youth Award for Excellence;Â awarded by the prime minister of Jamaica, it is considered the highest state award for youths in the country.
Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance yet to listen to the full length album they recently released which was produced by the legendary Sly and Robbie. Â However, it is on my radar and I’m very much looking forward to diving into it soon.
