Protoje Concert in Miami

I have become increasingly frustrated over the years with the lack of reggae concerts in Toronto.  While living near Harbourfront Centre, I could at least count on a decent concert once a year during the Island Soul festival in August (previous years had seen the likes of Tony Rebel, Barrington Levy, and Mykal Rose pass through).  However it seems like the organizers of that festival are no longer able to attract talent of that level.  This frustration has become amplified over the last year and combined with intense jealousy because my cousin who lives in New York has been able to see both Damian and Stephen Marley in concert.  The last straw was when he was able to go see a FREE Chronixx concert in Central Park.  However, a few weeks ago, Protoje recently announced on his Facebook page that he would be performing in Miami in late October.   Having never been to Miami, this seemed like as good a reason to go as any 🙂

After having bought the tickets for the show, and flights to Miami, an interesting twist manifested itself.  Special Guests were added to the billing this week for the Protoje concert in Miami.  Normally, something like this is an afterthought and isn’t really newsworthy…except for one little thing.  I did a little sleuthing work on Google and I discovered that the Welcome to Jamrock (hosted by Damian Marley) cruise ends in Miami the day before this Protoje concert! That means the likes of Damian and Stephen Marley, David Rodigan among others could be in town. If any of these guys end up appearing as special guests, it will be absolutely MENTAL! ‪Even if none of those folks are the special guests, this will be an AMAZING concert.  Protoje isn’t really mainstream yet, but that’s always the most fun time to see these artists perform live.  Also, the venue in Miami seems pretty intimate, which is another hugely important factor for a concert like this.  I can’t wait! #‎thegettogethermia‬
