Jane Macgizmo – Babylon

I just recently introduced TickuTalk fans to a new female reggae artiste (Xana Romeo), so let’s go for two in a row shall we?  This is Jane Macgizmo.  As a child of the 80’s, the name “Macgizmo” carries with it the awesome connotations of a cross between MacGyver and the furry creatures from the movie “Gremlins”.  I’m not sure if that’s what she was going for, but combining two awesome things from the 80’s is never a bad thing.  She has also already turned it into a logo for herself, which I am really digging.

Below is the official music video for her track called “Babylon”.  Now, this is not your typical reggae track.  In fact it feels more like a R&B slow jam, but that’s okay, because it works.  Jane has a great voice, and it goes really well with this hypnotic track.  Lyrically, the track is simple yet powerful.  I listened to this track at least a hundred times before I ever saw the video, and I had a hard time trying to picture what the video would be like.  The song can induce an almost meditative state, and I found the use of visuals in the rain forest to be soothing and quite fitting.  For me, part of the yearning for the freedom from Babylon involves getting out of the concrete jungle and getting back into nature.  Not sure if that makes sense, or if I’m just long overdue for a camping trip.  Oh well, whatever, just listen to the track.  You will like it.
